This weekend I stayed at home for a good rest. I did explore the surrounding woodlands towards sunset this evening. As I walked by the first tee at the Southwood Golf Course I chanced upon a fox about 100 metres from where I stood. Its surprise must have been greater. It stared at me for a few seconds before dashing into the woods. Last weekend I had hoped in vain to spot a fox in the New Forest, scanning the shades with a peering eye. It is common, is it not, to find what is sought when least expected in the least likely manner.
